JOGG is the Dutch acronym for Jongeren Op Gezond Gewicht (Young People at Healthy Weight). JOGG provides municipal authorities with an integrated approach for all projects aimed at reducing overweight among young people. It creates opportunities to get more public and private parties in a municipality into action, and by doing so achieving the best results together. The essence of JOGG is not to introduce new ideas, but to use what already works in a municipality and improve it.

The JOGG initiative is based on the Epode-methodology. Since its first implementation in the Netherlands in 2010 in Zwolle as ‘Zwolle, Gezonde Stad’ (Zwolle, Healthy City), there are more than 75 municipalities connected with this Dutch movement and thus working with the integral and intersectoral community approach for a healthy weight among children aged 0-19 years. ‘The JOGG initiative is based on the Epode-methodology, with the exception that it has an extra pillar: connecting prevention and care.

Activities

2 separate interactive plays on different themes. Parents are animated and challenged to think about their parenting style while getting informed on upbringing for healthy living and children are animated and challenged to think about bed rituals for getting a good night sleep.

In the Netherlands, JOGG Zwolle chose to organise simultaneously two different theatre plays, to reach both parents and children with adapted messages. The children were indirectly informed about the importance of a good night sleep and how they could arrange this, while the parents enjoyed an interactive play on the general concept of raising/educating children, with concrete examples on nutrition and physical (in)activity. See how they did it in the video.
